Taco — Off-Grid Baja Truck Camper

Taco began as a 2005 Lance 845 and was transformed into a warm, self-sufficient truck camper designed for extended travel and simple living on the beaches of Baja.

The goal was to make the compact interior feel brighter, more spacious, and more personal while improving the camper’s comfort, storage, and off-grid capability. After a deep cleaning and necessary repairs, the interior was refreshed with a desert-inspired palette of warm clay tones, soft neutrals, natural textures, and gold accents.

Small details helped bring the concept together. Cactus artwork, succulents, driftwood, custom fabrics, and thoughtfully selected decor created a strong sense of place without overwhelming the limited space. Existing light fixtures, cabinet hardware, stove knobs, and the oven handle were refinished in gold to coordinate with the new faucet and create a more cohesive interior.

Storage was treated as part of the design rather than an afterthought. New shelving and custom flip-top bedside cubbies made better use of otherwise overlooked areas, helping the camper remain organized and functional during longer trips.

The electrical, ventilation, and water systems were also upgraded to support independent travel, while the fiberglass exterior was carefully restored, protected, and resealed.

The result is a compact mobile retreat that feels playful, intentional, and connected to the landscape it was built to explore.
